The Kansas Department of Transportation will reduce U.S. 77 to one lane in each direction at Strother Field beginning Monday (Sept. 29) for railroad work on the BNSF crossing between Arkansas City and Winfield.
Northbound traffic will be restricted starting Sept. 29, but the highway will remain open in both directions until Oct. 5. On that date, the northbound lanes will fully close and traffic will shift head-to-head in the southbound lanes between 222nd and 212th roads, with the speed limit reduced to 35 mph.
KDOT said the schedule was updated to minimize lane closures, with head-to-head traffic expected for only one day, weather permitting.
