Football recap: Vikings, Crusaders score plenty but Winfield falls short Fri.

Wellington senior running back Jalik Armstrong had over 200 yards rushing and four touchdowns Friday night as the Crusaders beat host Winfield 46-28.

Wellington improves to a record of 5-1 for the first time since 2018. Winfield fell to 1-5 on the season.

The game was tight going into the fourth quarter, with the Crusaders clinging to a 32-28 lead. Armstrong then scored on a 44-yard run and added another touchdown late to seal the deal.

Wellington’s defense had two big stops deep in its end of the field to put an end to Viking scoring drives. Winfield wideout Eli Tagg had 175 yards on just three catches for three touchdowns. That included an 80 yard reception.

Viking senior quarterback Kellen Gibson threw for 204 yards and three touchdowns. He added 93 yards rushing and a touchdown on the ground.

Sophomore quarterback Colton Elmore ran for nearly 100 yards a touchdown and passed for 184 and one touchdown. On defense, Fisher Elder was credited with 10 tackles and a key sack.

Winfield travels to Buhler next. Wellington is host to Rose Hill.

Big night for Eisenhower RB Friday night leads to Ark City road loss

GODDARD – The Eisenhower Tigers defeated the Arkansas City Bulldogs 49-21 on Friday.

Senior running back Breyden Pappas rushed for 359 yards and four touchdowns on 26 carries as the Tigers improved to 2-4 on the season.

The Bulldogs were led by senior running back Daxton Weakley, who finished with a season-high 182 yards rushing on 27 attempts.

Senior quarterback Eli Ribaudo helped Eisenhower finish with more than 500 yards of total offense by going 14-of-20 passing for 180 yards and two touchdowns. Ribaudo’s main target was Hayden Nall, who finished with six catches for 109 yards and two touchdowns.

Ark City senior quarterback Jordy Pierce was not as fortunate, finishing 12-24 for 143 yards, to go along with one touchdown and three interceptions.

Sophomore receiver Trevin Miller led the Ark City receiving corps with four catches for 44 yards and a 19-yard touchdown catch.

The Bulldogs, 1-5 on the season, will return home to face Goddard next Friday at 7 p.m.
