A Winfield native who now lived in El Dorado was killed Saturday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on K-254 near Greenwich Road in Sedgwick County, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Troopers said 64-year-old Timothy Verbeck was riding a 2023 Harley-Davidson Tri Glide eastbound on K-254 around 3:23 p.m. when a northbound 1997 Ford Expedition failed to yield at the intersection. The motorcycle struck the SUV.

Verbeck was pronounced dead at the scene. The patrol said he was wearing a helmet.

The driver of the SUV, 78-year-old Lois Amos of Wichita, was taken to Wesley Medical Center with minor injuries.

Verbeck, who grew up in Winfield, was the son of the late Charles and Carolyn Verbeck, longtime owners of the Winfield skating rink. He was a familiar face there for many years, helping his family run the business.

Verbeck had been living in El Dorado but often returned to Cowley County to visit family and friends.

The Kansas Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
