A Cowley County Sheriff’s deputy was involved in a vehicle pursuit late Monday night that ended with one person in custody south of Winfield.

The chase began around 9:25 p.m. in the 21000 block of 85th Road, east of Strother Field, and continued for several miles. The suspect vehicle crashed in the 2700 block of Amos Becker Road just south of Winfield.

The driver, identified as 30-year-old Michael Douglas Love, was taken into custody at the scene. Love was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless driving, flee and elude, interference with law enforcement, no proof of insurance, and criminal use of a weapon.

Sheriff David Falletti explained that under Kansas law, criminal use of a weapon includes firearm possession by a person addicted to or using controlled substances. Deputies said controlled substances and paraphernalia were located in the vehicle.

Love posted bond, which was set at $8,600, and was released Tuesday afternoon. No injuries were reported.

A female in the vehicle was not placed under arrest.
