The Winfield girls were held scoreless in the first quarter as Chanute raced out to a 18-0 lead and coasted from there as the Vikings fell 44-24. Winfield eventually found some offense and outscored the Blue Comets 17-16 in the second half.

Addison Flaton led all scorers with 10 points. Nobody from Chanute reached double digits in scoring but eight players did score.

The Winfield boys saved their best for last as they overcame a 13-point fourth quarter deficit and won on opening night, 54-51. Winfield grabbed a 6-4 lead early in the game, and that was their only lead until mid-way through the 4th quarter.

Winfield was down 27-14 late in the 2nd quarter but back-to-back three pointers from Eli Tagg and Evan Hutto trimmed the halftime deficit to seven.

The Blue Comets outscored Winfield by six in the 3rd quarter and led 44-31 entering the final stanza. Elijah Bergeson, who had been scoreless, came alive with eight straight points as Winfield was able to get the game tied, just two and a half minutes into the quarter. Evan Hutto finished with a game high 21 points and Eli Tagg had 12.
