Arkansas City police cited an individual after a report of animal cruelty outside a convenience store last week.
Officers were dispatched around 6 a.m., Dec. 16 to Casey’s, 3413 N. Summit St., after a report that a person was striking a dog. The individual left the scene before officers arrived but was later located and issued citations for animal cruelty and disorderly conduct, police said.
The suspect was not identified by name.
The dog was taken into protective custody and is being cared for at the Cowley County Humane Society.
Sources at the scene that day said the dog had been left in a vehicle and eaten a breakfast sandwich. That is the issue said to have fueled the incident.
