Two from Winfield injured in semi and car crash Monday morning

Two people were injured Monday morning in a crash involving a passenger vehicle and a semi-trailer at North Summit Street and the U.S. 77 Bypass, according to the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called to the scene around 9:10 a.m.

Investigators said a red 2010 Toyota Camry, driven by 41-year-old Nicole Brown of Winfield, was traveling north on North Summit Street when it struck a maroon 2016 Great Dane semi-trailer crossing the intersection from the U.S. 77 Bypass.

The semi was driven by 70-year-old Bobby Riley of Ava, Missouri. A passenger in the semi was identified as 70-year-old Lou Cindia Riley, also of Ava.

The Camry became lodged on its side underneath the trailer following the collision. A passenger in the Camry, identified as 46-year-old Jason Salem of Winfield, was also injured.

Brown and Salem were transported to South Central Kansas Medical Center for treatment. The extent of their injuries was not immediately available.
