Sunflower OB/GYN at William Newton Hospital has received a $63,000 grant from the Patterson Family Foundation to fund the purchase of a GE Voluson E18 ultrasound machine.

The new equipment will be used by the Sunflower OB/GYN team, including OB/GYN K. Daniel Miller, DO, and women’s health provider Katie Onwugbufor, APRN, in providing prenatal and gynecological care to patients.

The GE Voluson E18 replaces a seven-year-old ultrasound unit and offers improved diagnostic capability, including enhanced measurement accuracy, improved color imaging for blood-flow monitoring, and higher image resolution. The system is also designed to provide clearer imaging for patients with a higher body mass index.

“I am very grateful for the Patterson Family Foundation’s support in fully funding this project,” said Mathilde Squires, clinic manager at Sunflower OB/GYN. “Their commitment to rural and community health facilities helps support access to specialty care in smaller communities.”

Sonographer Michelle Ledford will attend an education course at the GE application training center in Wisconsin in June to receive training on the new system.

Sunflower OB/GYN continues to accept new patients and provides obstetric and gynecological services at William Newton Hospital.
