The Cowley College Collegiate Quiz Bowl team placed eighth at the 2026 National Academic Quiz Tournaments Community College Championship Tournament, outperforming its No. 10 seed in a 24-team field.

The national competition was held in Rosemont, Illinois, near Chicago. Representing Cowley were Eli Hubble, Rawson Ray, Jimmy Ball and Andrew Allen, who competed across a range of subjects including geology, chemistry, history, art, literature and poetry.

Hubble led the Tigers individually, finishing 10th overall out of 104 competitors. He also placed third among freshmen, signaling strong potential for the program moving forward.

Cowley was featured in two recorded matches during the tournament — the first time NAQT has captured gameplay for YouTube — including a round in which the Tigers earned a win. The recordings are expected to be released this summer. Continue below ad.

While in the Chicago area, the team visited the Field Museum and the Art Institute of Chicago. Instructor Mark Flickinger led discussions tied to his art history curriculum, and the group later stopped at Cahokia Mounds, a UNESCO World Heritage Site east of St. Louis, on the return trip to Kansas.

Cowley will next compete April 17-18 at Salina Area Technical College for the Kansas State Championship. The Tigers will attempt to repeat as state champions.
