WINFIELD — Southwestern College has received approval to launch the first Doctor of Medical Science program based in Kansas, a move college officials say marks a major expansion of advanced healthcare education in the state.
The program is designed for working physician associates who want to build their skills, take on leadership roles and help train future healthcare professionals. College officials say it will help meet growing demand for providers in both rural and urban areas.
“This is truly a historic moment for Kansas and for the PA profession in our region,” said Southwestern College President Dr. Elizabeth Frombgen.
The program will be offered online and is expected to begin with its first class in August 2026. It includes two tracks focused on leadership and education. Continue below ad.
Chandra Lynch, director of Southwestern’s planned physician associate program, said the new degree will also create a path for future students in Winfield.
“Once PA is launched, the DMSc program will be a natural next step in advancement for our own Southwestern PA program graduates,” Lynch said.
College officials said applications are now being accepted for the first class.
