Southwestern College will host its annual Honors Convocation Thursday, April 16, at 4 p.m. in the Richardson Performing Arts Center.
The event is free and open to the public.
Retired Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty J.K. Campbell will serve as the featured speaker.
Campbell retired in December 2025 but continues to work part time in the college’s Office of Institutional Advancement. During his 7½ years at Southwestern, he also served as education division chair and associate professor of education.
Before joining the college, Campbell spent more than 30 years in public education, including seven years as superintendent of Winfield USD 465. He began his teaching career in Winfield.
The convocation will include recognition of Masterbuilders, Student Government Association members, faculty and staff award recipients and students named to the Dean’s Honor Roll. The SC Singers will also perform. Continue below ad.
An honorary degree will be presented to Kathy Mignone, a longtime cafeteria employee known as “Miss Kathy.” Mignone has worked at the college for more than 35 years and will receive a bachelor of arts degree in general studies.
Campbell holds degrees from Wichita State University and Friends University.
