Cowley County Humane Society deals with parvo outbreak; Seeks donations

The Cowley County Humane Society is asking for public support as it works to treat a parvovirus outbreak affecting puppies at its facility.

According to a statement from the shelter, staff are providing around-the-clock care to infected animals, many of which are described as young and medically fragile.

Parvovirus, commonly known as parvo, is a highly contagious and potentially fatal illness that primarily affects puppies. Treatment often requires intensive care, including fluids, medications and constant monitoring.

Donations to assist with treatment can be made directly through Cottonwood Animal Clinic by calling 620-442-8619 during business hours and specifying the funds are for the humane society’s parvo cases.

Those unable to donate are encouraged to share information about the situation to help raise awareness.
