A Wichita man was killed and two juveniles were seriously injured in a crash Saturday afternoon north of Belle Plaine, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 4:45 p.m. on Oliver Road about one mile north of Belle Plaine.
According to the KHP crash log, a 2002 Dodge Ram pickup was traveling northbound when the driver attempted to pass in a no-passing zone near railroad tracks. The vehicle lost control, entered the west ditch and struck a tree.
The driver, identified as 49-year-old Marty Vannordstrand of Wichita, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was transported to Cornejo Funeral Home. Continue below ad.
Two passengers, a 9-year-old and a 14-year-old, both of Belle Plaine, were transported to Wesley Medical Center with suspected serious injuries.
All occupants were reported to be properly restrained at the time of the crash.
The incident remains under investigation by the Kansas Highway Patrol.
