Firefighters in Ponca City battle early morning apartment fire on Friday

Firefighters in Ponca City battled a large apartment fire early Friday morning, according to reporting by Kay NewsCow.

Ponca City fire crews were dispatched at around 2:15 a.m. Friday to the 300 block of East Hazel and arrived within about three minutes to find heavy fire coming from the second floor of an abandoned apartment building.

In a written release, Fire Chief Eddie Shultz said firefighters initially took a defensive approach to keep the fire from spreading to nearby properties before conditions allowed crews to move inside and continue extinguishment efforts.

About 25 firefighters responded to the scene and remained there for roughly three hours before the fire was brought under control. Continue story below ad.

No civilian injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s Office.

The Ponca City Fire Department also thanked the Ponca City Police Department, McCord Volunteer Fire Department and dispatch personnel for assisting during the response.
