Wayman Young, age 79, passed away peacefully at home in Arkansas City, Kansas surrounded by his family on May 21, 2026.
Wayman was born in Mapleton, KS on February 8, 1947 to parents, Lena Kerr Young and Marion Young. Wayman was primarily raised in the Mapleton, KS/Ft. Scott, KS areas.
Wayman married Lois “Fannie” Beard in 1968 and they later divorced. Two children were born to this marriage, Wayman, Jr. and Taj Young.
Wayman married Linda Bauman in 1987. Two children were born to this marriage, Kashilia Young and Jason Young.
Over the years, Wayman primarily worked at Gaynor Oil & Gas and at Rubbermaid. Later in life, he enjoyed completing car detailing work. He retired in 2011.
Wayman enjoyed hunting, riding motorcycles, playing and watching softball and baseball games, along with going to the casino, playing dominoes and cards. He was an avid KC Royals and KC Chiefs fan. In his younger years, he enjoyed boxing and he competed briefly at the semi-pro boxing level.
Wayman is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Junior, Goldie, and Wade; his sisters Janice, Loretta, Mary Ann, and Teresa; and his son Taj.
He is survived by his wife Linda of 38 years ; his children Wayman, Jr. (Shelly), Kashilia (Heidi), and Jason (Breeona); his step-son Shannon Beard; his grandchildren Dominic, Kaitlyn, Kendall, Trinity, Khelen, Khalil, Cooper, Peyton, Maverick, Skyia and Bexley and his siblings, Nellie Satterfield (Terry), Rhonda Warren (Ike), Floyd and Rodney.
A memorial gathering will be held at a later date.
The family has entrusted Affordable Cremations Plus in Wichita, Kansas with Wayman’s care.
