A fundraising campaign has been launched to help a longtime Cowley College instructor and director of the college’s criminal justice program who was critically injured in a motor-vehicle accident in Mulvane last week.
Frank Owens was hurt July 14 when the vehicle he was driving left K-15 highway and struck a residential structure, according to the Mulvane Police Department.
Police said dispatchers received reports at about 1:40 p.m. of a southbound vehicle on K-15 near Willow Lane that crossed the centerline and left the roadway. The vehicle entered the north ditch, struck a residential structure, traveled through the south portion of the structure, exited the east side and came to rest in a neighboring driveway.
Owens was transported to a Wichita-area hospital with what authorities described as potentially life-threatening injuries. The crash remains under investigation, and no additional information has been released.
As Owens continues his recovery, family members have turned to the community for help with mounting medical expenses and other financial burdens.

The fundraiser describes Owens as a devoted criminal justice instructor, police officer, husband and father who has spent his career serving others through education and law enforcement.
As Owens remains hospitalized, the fundraiser says medical expenses continue to grow while his wife has remained with him, balancing time at the hospital with the many responsibilities brought on by the unexpected ordeal.
Funds raised through the campaign will help cover hospital expenses and help ease the family’s financial burden.

Emergency responders assisting at the scene included Derby Fire, Mulvane Police Department, Mulvane EMS, Mulvane Fire & Rescue and the Wichita Police Department.
