Three people suffered minor injuries Thursday afternoon in a head-on crash on U.S. 77 north of Winfield, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 4:35 p.m. on U.S. 77 near milepost 25, just north of 102nd Rd.
According to the highway patrol, a 2024 Ram 2500 pickup driven by Jeffrey W. Nicoll, 58, of Denver, Colorado, was traveling south when Nicoll attempted to pass another vehicle.
Investigators said Nicoll encountered a northbound 2018 Chevy Volt driven by George K. Brady, 36, of Rose Hill. Both drivers attempted to avoid a collision by steering into the east ditch.
The highway patrol said Brady then attempted to return to the northbound lane, and the two vehicles collided head-on along the shoulder of the highway. Continue below ad.
Following the impact, the Volt rotated approximately 180 degrees. The Ram pickup rolled about two times before coming to rest on its wheels in a field west of the highway.
Nicoll and his passenger, Amy B. Nicoll, 60, also of Denver, were transported to William Newton Hospital in Winfield with suspected minor injuries. Brady was also reported to have suffered suspected minor injuries.
All three occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, according to the highway patrol.
Both vehicles were removed from the scene by Express Recovery.
The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
