Construction is starting on the F Street Bridge replacement project in Arkansas City’s Sleeth Addition.

Kansas Concrete LLC, of Nickerson, will set up traffic control measures along F Street, just north of Tyler Avenue. Removal of the existing bridge over Mill Canal is expected to begin shortly afterward. Work was set to begin as early as Thursday.

The project will replace the aging 40-foot steel beam bridge with a new reinforced concrete structure designed to provide a safer and more reliable crossing for motorists.

The Arkansas City Commission awarded the $388,803.80 construction contract to Kansas Concrete in August. Continue story below ad.

The Kansas Department of Transportation’s Local Bridge Improvement Program will cover 85 percent of eligible construction and construction engineering costs.

The city’s estimated share of the construction contract is approximately $58,321, with additional engineering and other project-related expenses funded locally.
