ARKANSAS CITY — Arkansas City High School music students earned top marks Saturday at the Regional Solo and Small Ensemble Festival held at Andover High School.
A total of 135 students from ACHS participated in the event, showcasing their talent across a wide range of solo and ensemble performances.
Students were supported by music educators Logan Caywood, Hans Judd, Alicia Kerwood and Chris VanGilder, along with accompanists Lisa Klaassen and Emerson Talkington.
Several students and ensembles received “Outstanding” (I) ratings, qualifying them for the State Music Festival scheduled for April 26 at Salina South High School.
State qualifiers include the following soloists: Jayden Cutright, Riley Daniels, Natalie Fleig, Tom Loveland, Anthony Moore, Trey Noland, Sebastian Rodriguez, Ophelia Strecker and Harper Whetstone.
Qualifying ensembles include Arkettes, Clarinet Trio, Saxophone Duet, String Sextet, Select Percussion Ensemble and Trumpet Choir.
In addition, numerous students earned “Excellent” (II) ratings for their performances. Continue below ad.
Soloists receiving Excellent ratings include Landon Burr, Aaliyah Castillo, David Gonzalez, Rosa Leyva, Zach Pieper, Isabella Retana, Ophelia Strecker, Hadley Smyer, Camden Vickery and Esa Wyckoff.
Ensembles earning Excellent ratings include Ark High Singers, Clarinet Choir, Flute Choir, Flute Duets, Large Percussion Ensemble, Low Brass Choir, Purple and Gold String Ensemble, Saxophone Quartet, String Bass Trios, Large String Ensemble and String Quartet.
