ACHS principal, hired last March, announces she will resign at end of school year

Ark City High School Principal Melissa Seacat announced Thursday she will not return to USD 470 after this school year.

According to a news release from the school district Friday morning, Seacat will step down as ACHS head principal effective June 30.

Seacat was announced as the new principal for the high school last March following the December 2022 resignation of previous principal Jeremy Truelove.

“As a district, we are grateful for the passion and experience she’s shared during her time here and we extend our best wishes to Ms. Seacat as she moves on to new endeavors,” a statement from USD 470 said. “We will soon begin the process of selecting a new head principal and remain focused on being a learning community that empowers all students to foster their dreams and create their futures.”

In a letter to ACHS staff, students and families, Seacat, who was the assistant principal at Valley Center High School before coming to Ark City, said she’s accepted a job in Emporia and will stay in education.

“After a lot of thought and consideration to my personal and professional life, I have decided to resign from USD 470 and accept a new position with USD 253 Emporia School District,” Seacat wrote. “It has been a privilege to serve as principal, and I have no doubt that ACHS will continue to move in a positive direction.

“I will finish this year with the same dedication to student and staff success and wish nothing but the absolute best for ACHS.”
