ACPD: Two arrested on gun, meth charges following traffic stop

The Arkansas City Police Department arrested two individuals on meth and gun charges following a routine traffic stop in the 1100 block of West Elm on Monday.

According to a news release from the ACPD Wednesday, an officer observed a Chevrolet pickup committing a traffic violation just before noon Monday. The driver, Chaz Edward Alcorn, 35, of Ark City, was found to have a suspended driver’s license, an expired tag, and no proof of insurance.

Further investigation revealed an active Kiowa County, Kansas, District Court Warrant for Alcorn’s probation violation as well as possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a firearm.

Elia Rodriguez, 38, also of Ark City, a passenger in the vehicle, was also detained. Subsequent searches conducted by officers revealed a handgun, drug paraphernalia, and a baggie containing a substance believed to be methamphetamine.

Both suspects were transported to the Cowley County Jail.

Alcorn’s bond was set at $12,300, while Rodriguez’s was set at $10,500. Both remained confined in the county jail as of Wednesday.
