The City of Arkansas City will resume its annual fire hydrant flushing program, with work across southwest Ark City already underway.
According to a news release from the city earlier this week, the Environmental Services Department began flushing Section 1 on Tuesday, which contains 80 fire hydrants along and south of Washington Avenue, south to Lincoln Avenue, and west of First Street, including the Veterans Memorial Lake area.
Flushing will continue in Section 1 through at least June 20. All flushing will be conducted between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday only.
Water customers in this area might experience temporary discoloration or low water pressure during this fire hydrant flushing program. Most discoloration can be corrected by flushing a faucet for a few minutes, but if flushing does not fix the problem or if you continue to notice a pressure loss, call (620) 441-4480 (Office) or (620) 441-4492 (After 4:30 p.m. On Call).
The Environmental Services Department advises not to wash laundry if your water is discolored, which can permanently stain the items. If laundry becomes stained, please leave the items wet; call one of the numbers above, and a detergent to remove the stains will be delivered to your address.
“Thank you for your cooperation and patience during this annual fire hydrant flushing program,” Environmental Services Superintendent Rod Philo said.
