Ark City basketball teams start season with a pair of victories

The Lady Bulldogs made just six baskets on Thursday but defeated Coffeyville Field-Kindley 29-23 behind solid defense and a dominant performance on the boards. 

Ark City trailed 18-14 entering the final quarter of play before outscoring the Tornados 15-5. Abrey Weakley came off the bench to lead the team with seven points, while Harper Webb, Genesis Figueroa, and Gracie Phillips added four points apiece.

In the boys’ game, Ark City used a 20-8 second quarter to lead Coffeyville 27-14. The Bulldogs would lead 40-30 at the end of the third quarter and hold on for a 50-45 victory. Sophomore Trevin Miller led Ark City with 17 points and five three-pointers. Junior Jaxon Jackson added 15 points as the Bulldogs won despite a game-high 22 points from the Tornados’ Kaylan Austin.
