A 69-year-old Arkansas City man has been arrested in connection with Tuesday night’s shooting involving his stepson in south Arkansas City.
Curtis Boone was taken into custody Wednesday after being released from the hospital. He was booked into the Cowley County Jail on charges of aggravated battery, unlawful discharge of a firearm and possession of a firearm while under the influence.
Boone remains jailed on an $84,000 bond.
The charges stem from a shooting reported at approximately 7:14 p.m. Tuesday at a residence in the 1300 block of South H Street.
According to the Arkansas City Police Department, officers arrived to find a 57-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the leg. An Arkansas City police officer applied a tourniquet to help control the victim’s blood loss until Arkansas City Fire/EMS personnel arrived. The victim was treated at the scene before being airlifted by EagleMed to a Wichita hospital. Continue below ad.
Police said the preliminary investigation indicates Boone and the victim, identified as father and stepson, became involved in a physical altercation inside the residence. During the altercation, Boone allegedly produced a firearm and shot the victim.
Investigators said Boone was also evaluated at the scene and initially declined medical transport before later seeking treatment at a local emergency room and being transferred to a Wichita hospital. He was arrested Wednesday after being released from the hospital.
The investigation remains ongoing.
