The Arkansas City Police Department is investigating a threat made against the Arkansas City Walmart Monday evening that prompted the store to close early as a precaution.
According to police, at approximately 8:25 p.m. Monday, a Walmart employee working at the customer service desk received a telephone call from an individual who threatened to come to the store and shoot people inside.
Employees immediately notified police, and officers responded to the store to protect customers and employees. Walmart management closed the store early while officers remained on scene to provide security and assist with the response.
“Thankfully, no injuries were reported, and no shots were fired,” Arkansas City Police Chief Jim Holloway said. “We appreciate the cooperation of Walmart employees, customers and the public throughout this incident.”
Police said the investigation remains active as officers work to identify the person responsible for making the threat.
