CALDWELL — Police are investigating after three suspicious devices were found Saturday morning at separate locations within Caldwell, prompting road closures and a multi-agency response that included the Wichita Police Bomb Squad and federal authorities.

Caldwell officers were first called at about 8:33 a.m. Dec. 6 to the 100 block of South Main Avenue for a report of an unknown device. Police shut down nearby streets as a precaution while emergency crews evaluated the scene.

Because the device had the potential to be explosive, the Caldwell Police Department requested assistance from multiple agencies. Bomb technicians with Wichita Police assessed the device on South Main and safely neutralized it so it could be collected for forensic examination.

While officers were still on scene, two additional similar devices were located elsewhere in the city — one in the 100 block of South Chisholm Avenue and another in the 00 block of North Arapahoe. All three devices were secured as evidence.

Police said the investigation remains active as local, county, and federal authorities work to determine the nature of the devices and who placed them.

Caldwell police are asking residents and business owners to review surveillance footage from Saturday and the hours before. Anyone with information or recordings showing suspicious activity, people, vehicles, or sounds in the affected areas is urged to call 911.

Assisting agencies included the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office, the Wichita Police Department Bomb Squad, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Caldwell EMS, and the Caldwell Fire Department.
