The Cowley College men’s basketball team is dancing again.

The Tigers were selected Sunday as an at-large bid for the NJCAA Tournament in Hutchinson.

It’s the second time in four years Cowley made the 24-team field.

In 2020, the Tigers made the tournament for the first time in school history since 1957. Cowley, led by Cevin Clark, went all the way to the title game but fell to fellow Jayhawk Conference member Coffeyville, who featured current K-State guard Tylor Perry and was the NJCAA Tournament MVP that year.

Cowley, ranked No. 11 in the most recent NJCAA poll and now coached by Donnie Jackson, will be a 9-seed in Hutch and are led by sophomore Jeff Nwankwo — a 6’6” Oklahoma City native who is averaging 18.6 points per game.

Not far behind is fellow sophomore Arzhonte Dallas, a 5’10” guard out of Lawton, Okla. Dallas has scored 15.2 ppg and like Nwankwo, can hit the 3.

Corey Thomas, a 6’10” sophomore forward from Atlanta, Georgia, has averaged a double-double this season at 11.9 ppg and 10.2 rebounds per contest.

Freshman Marcus Zeigler is a local product who played at Wichita Heights.

Zeigler was a First Team All-State selection while helping Heights get to the state title game. He led the Falcons with 13.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.9 steals per game. He’s averaged 6.5 ppg for Cowley.

Former Winfield Viking Trey Theil is also on the roster for the Tigers as a freshman.

The Tigers (27-5) will face Allegany Maryland, the 24-seed, on Sunday.

The Trojans come to Hutch 26-7 and will represent the Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference. AMC won its Region 20 and East District Tournament championship game in overtime.
