Car and driver end up in canal as result of accident in AC Sunday morning

ARKANSAS CITY — Arkansas City police responded early Sunday to a single-vehicle accident that involved a car entering a canal.

Officers were called at approximately 2:20 a.m. Sunday to the 400 block of West Adams Ave., where they found a red 2015 Ford Focus resting sideways in the canal. The driver was still inside the vehicle when officers arrived and was assisted out.

Arkansas City Fire/EMS responded to the scene and transported the driver, identified as Yani Felix, 29, of Arkansas City, to the emergency room for treatment.

Police said the vehicle was traveling westbound on W. Adams when it failed to navigate a turn, drove through a newly installed fence along the Hike and Bike Trail, and entered the canal. Continue below ad.

The crash remains under investigation. The case will be forwarded to the Cowley County Attorney’s Office for review of potential charges.
