Cowley County health officials have selected a familiar face to lead the local health department, appointing longtime staff member Allyson Henley as its new administrator and public health officer.
Henley has spent the past five years with the Cowley County Health Department, most recently serving as epidemiologist and assistant administrator. A graduate of Southwestern College, she earned her master’s degree in public health in 2021.
Dr. John Seitz, chairman of the Joint Board of Health of Cowley County, said the board was pleased to promote from within. “The Board of Health is pleased to have the best-qualified candidate for the administrator position in-house so that the organization can continue to operate effectively and efficiently,” Seitz said. Former Health Department Administrator and Public Health Officer Tom Langer said Henley is well prepared to step into the role.
“The Health Department has made tremendous strides in advancing the health of the community over the last 10 years,” said Langer, who departed at the end of January. “Allyson has been here for a good portion of that time and is experienced and prepared to continue leading the organization.”
Henley said she is honored to take on the position. “I’m honored to step into the role of administrator and to serve Cowley County,” she said. “I look forward to working with staff, community partners and families to ensure our health department continues to be a trusted place for quality care.”
