Candidates have until April 10 to apply for the City of Winfield’s Fire-EMS chief position as officials continue the search for a permanent replacement for Vince Warren, who recently retired.
Pete Rowley is currently serving in that position in an interim role.
The position will oversee Winfield Fire-EMS, a combined department serving about 20,000 residents across the northern two-thirds of Cowley County.
The department responds to nearly 3,000 calls annually, with approximately 85 percent related to emergency medical services. It operates on a $3.9 million budget funded through property tax, sales tax and EMS fees and is recognized statewide for its technical capabilities and regional partnerships.
City officials say the next chief will be expected to lead both the department’s traditional fire service role and its increasingly critical EMS operations. The position calls for a visible and accountable leader focused on training, personnel development and building relationships within the department, across city leadership and throughout the community.
