Fireworks Spark Blaze At Spring Hill Golf Course Shortly After July 4th Show

Ark City firefighters were busy Monday night at Spring Hill Golf Course in Ark City, the site of the community’s July 4th fireworks show.

According to the Ark City Fire Department Tuesday morning, embers from the show ignited a large fire on a hill of cedar trees near Hole 5. The blaze was contained at approximately 11:48 p.m. and approximately two acres were burned. The fire was contained to the rough southeast of the hole.

ACFD confirmed the fire was sparked by fireworks and already had firefighters there on standby.

Overall, eight firefighters battled the blaze and because of the location of the fire, several had to battle the flames on foot.

Two firefighting apparatus and a command vehicle were used. Additional equipment was called as a precaution, but was not needed.
