A Wichita man was arrested Sunday evening following a felony traffic stop in Winfield that left four law enforcement officers injured, according to the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office.
Around 6:15 p.m. Sept. 20, Cowley County deputies were notified by the Butler County Sheriff’s Office to be on the lookout for a black Toyota Tundra connected to a domestic battery incident in Butler County.
Deputies located the vehicle traveling south on U.S. 77 and, with assistance from Winfield Police Department officers, conducted a felony traffic stop in the parking lot of Jump Start, 1318 Main St.
According to the sheriff’s office, the driver presented a firearm during the stop but complied with commands from officers to place it back inside the vehicle. Authorities said the driver then became combative while officers were taking him into custody. Four law enforcement officers were injured during the incident, and property was also damaged. The driver was identified as Joshua Lee Bader, 32, of Wichita.
Bader was transported to the Cowley County Jail, where he remained in custody. His bond was set at $43,000.
The sheriff’s office did not immediately provide additional information on the extent of the officers’ injuries or the property that was damaged.
Bader is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
