ARKANSAS CITY — The USD 470 Board of Education will interview four finalists next week as the district searches for a successor to longtime Superintendent Ron Ballard, who recently announced plans to retire at the end of the school year.
Each candidate will spend a full day in Arkansas City meeting with staff, students and community members. The district will announce that day’s candidate each morning throughout the week. The finalists have not been identified by name.
A community meet-and-greet will be held Monday through Thursday from 4:15 to 5:30 p.m. in the Arkansas City High School foyer. Residents are invited to attend, meet the candidate and help extend a warm Ark City welcome. Each day will conclude with a formal interview with the Board in executive session.
“This candidate pool represents exceptional leadership talent,” said Dr. Chad Higgins, ESSDACK director and lead recruiter for the search. “We’re eager for the Board, staff and community to meet these candidates and continue moving toward selecting the next great leader for USD 470.” Continue story below ad.
Board President Jon Oak said choosing the next superintendent is among the Board’s most important responsibilities.
“This is one of the most important things we do as a Board,” Oak said. “We care deeply about our schools and our community, and we’re committed to finding the right leader.”
The district said it looks forward to introducing the finalists and showcasing what makes Arkansas City a great place to live, work and learn.
