Following Cowley College’s recent production of Young Frankenstein, the Kennedy Center has invited Cowley College and student Meghann Borum to present the costumes from the fall production at the Region 5 Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival held January 16-21 in Des Moines, Iowa.
According to a news release from the college Wednesday, Nick Albrecht, Director of Theatre at Cowley College, considers this to be a huge honor, considering there are only five schools selected from the region to present a production’s costumes, and it will be done in front of 1,600 people.
“Another wonderful part of this is that it is our second time in as many years showcasing our costumes at the festival, as we were invited last year as well,” Albrecht said. “We have also received a handful of additional awards in special achievement for costuming, scenic design, and directing.”
Additionally, three Cowley College students are competing in the Irene Ryan performance competition; two will be auditioning/interviewing for professional companies, and one will compete for a performance slot in the Musical Theatre Intensive.
“These are some really great opportunities for our students and our faculty/staff,” Albrecht said.
