A Cowley County Sheriff’s deputy used a Taser to take a 52-year-old man into custody Wednesday evening after a brief pursuit ended in a low-lying water area northwest of Udall.
According to the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office, the deputy attempted a traffic stop in the 3000 block of First Road before the driver, identified as Kristopher Shane Clem, fled the scene.
The pursuit ended when Clem drove into a low area and came to a stop in water. Authorities said he failed to follow commands after stopping, and a Taser was deployed before he was taken into custody. Continue below ad.
Clem was arrested at approximately 7:45 p.m. on suspicion of flee and elude, driving under the influence, reckless driving, interference with law enforcement and a traffic offense related to an ignition interlock device.
The interference charge is a felony and the rest are misdemeanors, according to jail records. These are not yet formal charges, which must be brought by the Cowley County Attorney’s Office.
