ARKANSAS CITY — One person was injured in a family-related shooting Tuesday evening in Arkansas City, and the suspected shooter has been arrested.
Arkansas City Fire/EMS and the Arkansas City Police Department were dispatched shortly after 7 p.m. Tuesday to the 1300 block of South H following a report of a gunshot, according to City Communications Manager Shana Adkisson.
Police Chief Jim Holloway said the shooting involved people who know one another and are related. The victim was transported to a Wichita hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. Continue below ad.
The suspect was taken into custody, Holloway said. He added there is no ongoing danger to the surrounding neighborhood.
Holloway later updated to say that the suspect, a male, had also sustained injuries and would be transported to a Wichita hospital. Thus, he was not currently in jail.
Additional details, including the circumstances leading up to the shooting and the identities of those involved, were not immediately available Tuesday night. The investigation is ongoing.
