Arkansas City-based Jet AirWerks was acquired by Connecticut-based Barnes Aerospace in late August, bringing the longtime local aircraft engine repair company under the umbrella of a global aerospace firm.
The acquisition closed Aug. 20. Barnes officials said the deal expands the company’s component repair and overhaul business and adds Jet AirWerks’ expertise in the inspection, repair, overhaul and disassembly of commercial aircraft engine components.
Founded in 2007, Jet AirWerks operates an FAA-certified repair station in Arkansas City and specializes in components from the CFM56, CF6 and CF34 families of jet engines. The company also holds certifications from aviation authorities in Europe, China and the United Kingdom and serves both domestic and international customers.
Those engine families are used in aircraft made by some of the biggest names in commercial aviation. The CFM56 has been widely used on Boeing 737s and Airbus A320-family aircraft, while the CF6 has powered widebody aircraft including Boeing 747s and 767s and several Airbus models. The CF34 is widely used on Bombardier and Embraer regional jets.
Barnes Aerospace CEO Mike Mosley called Jet AirWerks a strong strategic fit for the company, citing its engineering expertise, repair capabilities and experience in the commercial aerospace aftermarket.
Jet AirWerks, which employs between 50 and 60 people in Arkansas City, now becomes part of a global aerospace company with more than 1,500 employees and facilities across North America, Europe and Asia.

Barnes said it plans to maintain business continuity and support employees and customers as Jet AirWerks is integrated into the company.
Barnes Aerospace provides aircraft engine component manufacturing, repair and overhaul services for commercial and defense customers. Its customers include aircraft and engine manufacturers, maintenance and repair organizations and airlines.
Terms of the Jet AirWerks acquisition were not disclosed.
