Venue 208 was packed with citizens curious about the state of SCK Health during the hospital’s second “Community Conversation” Thursday night in downtown Ark City.

SCK Health CEO Jeff Bowman and healthcare officials shared with and took questions from the crowd about the latest on the hospital’s financial struggles and how they are being addressed — namely SCK Health’s application to become a designated Rural Emergency Hospital, which would enable more Medicare funding and higher reimbursements.

If approved, the hospital could stay open, retain a high majority of its services and stay viable financially, according to hospital officials.

Under the hospital’s current structure — now losing over $200,000 per month — it’s estimated the hospital would close by the end of the year, according to Thursday night’s presentation.
