WINFIELD — A second suspect has been arrested in connection with the Dec. 21 shooting at an apartment complex in Winfield that left a 24-year-old man critically injured.

Joshua Paul Pourciau, 29, was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon in northern Arkansas, according to Arkansas State Police. Authorities said a trooper conducted a traffic stop around 2 p.m. on Highway 65 near Clinton after observing a black Ford F-250 parked on the shoulder. Pourciau was a passenger in the vehicle.

A records check revealed active nationwide felony warrants for attempted first-degree murder related to the Winfield shooting. Pourciau was taken into custody without incident.

During a search of the pickup, troopers reported finding a backpack containing a loaded handgun with 15 rounds of ammunition, along with marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Pourciau was booked into the Van Buren County Detention Center on weapons and drug charges, as well as charges related to the outstanding Kansas warrants.

He remained in custody Friday morning. Continue story below ad.

The arrest follows the Jan. 4 apprehension of 31-year-old Rocky Leroy Brown, who was taken into custody in Winfield on a felony warrant for attempted first-degree murder stemming from the same incident.

The shooting occurred around 4 a.m. Dec. 21 at Walnut Towers, 1201 Menor St. The victim was transported to a Wichita hospital for treatment.

The Winfield Police Department has said investigators believe the suspect and victim knew each other and that the shooting was an isolated incident.

The investigation has included assistance from the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office and the Arkansas City Police Department.
