Both Winfield basketball teams struggled to score on Tuesday night in Augusta as the Orioles completed a season sweep of the Vikings.

In the girls game, both teams were ice cold from the field as Augusta led at halftime 10-8.  But freshman Kate Bourm came on in the second half for the Orioles, hitting three 3-pointers and led Augusta to a 30-17 victory.

Winfield fell behind 3-0 to start but rattled off six points in a row for their only lead of the game.  Augusta scored the next seven points and led by two at halftime.  They proceeded to outscore Winfield 20-9 in the second half.  Winfield senior Addison Flaton led the Vikings in scoring with eight points.

The Augusta boys came out fast against Winfield as they executed their half-court offense to perfection.  The pick-and-roll offense, led by Brody Haskell and Brice Martin, led to several layups and one slam dunk as Augusta took a 18-6 lead going into the second quarter.  Winfield played a much better second quarter but trailed 27-14 at halftime.

Augusta continued to play well in the second half as they outscored Winfield 34-16, leading them to a 61-30 victory.  The Viking boys have now lost three games in a row.  Winfield was led in scoring by freshman Le’Gend Riley with 10, senior Kellen Gibson had nine.  Winfield’s leading scorer on the season, Evan Hutto, was guarded tightly all night by Haskell and scored just four points.

Winfield will host Mulvane on Thursday night with games at 6 and 7:45 p.m.
