A 16-year-old Winfield boy was seriously injured late Monday night after falling from the back of a moving vehicle near Winfield City Lake, according to the Winfield Police Department.
Officers and Winfield Fire/EMS were dispatched at approximately 11 p.m. Monday to the north road of Winfield City Lake following a report of a juvenile with a head injury. While officers were en route, dispatchers received additional information indicating the teen had fallen from a moving vehicle.
Police said the vehicle was being driven by an 18-year-old Winfield woman.
The investigation determined the 16-year-old fell from the back of the moving vehicle and struck the roadway, causing him to lose consciousness. Officers provided emergency medical care until EMS personnel arrived.
The teen was transported by Winfield Fire/EMS to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita for further evaluation and treatment. Continue below ad.
The incident remains under investigation. Police said the case will be forwarded to the Cowley County Attorney’s Office for review and consideration of any applicable charges once the investigation is complete.
The Winfield Police Department was assisted at the scene by Winfield Fire/EMS, the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office and the Burden Fire Department.
