Winfield Police investigate altercation that injured two people on Saturday

Two people were injured during an altercation Saturday night in Winfield, according to the Winfield Police Department.

Officers were dispatched at approximately 8:40 p.m. June 6 to the area of St. James Court in the Canterbury Village neighborhood after receiving reports of a physical disturbance. While en route, officers were advised one of the individuals involved may have suffered stab wounds.

Upon arrival, officers located a 32-year-old Winfield man and a juvenile male, also from Winfield, who had been involved in a physical altercation. Police said both suffered multiple lacerations.

Officers provided medical aid until Winfield EMS arrived. Both individuals were transported to Wichita-area hospitals for treatment.

Investigators recovered an edged weapon believed to have been used during the incident.

Police said the case appears to be an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public. The investigation remains active.

Authorities did not release the identities of those involved and did not indicate whether any arrests had been made or whether anyone had been taken into custody as of Monday afternoon.

The Winfield Police Department was assisted by the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office.
