The seventh annual Mile of Lights Fun Run/Walk, hosted in December by the Winfield Recreation Commission and William Newton Hospital, marked its highest-grossing year, raising $3,160.50 for the Winfield Isle of Lights.

While frigid temperatures led to fewer participants than usual, 985 people registered for the event. Organizers said it remains the largest event hosted by either organization.

Each year, a portion of the proceeds is donated to the Winfield Isle of Lights to help support the community’s annual Christmas light display.

Traditionally held the second Sunday in December, this year’s Mile of Lights is scheduled for Dec. 13.
