Aaron “Kent” Killingsworth, 84, of Dexter, Kansas, passed away Monday, December 8, 2025, at his home.
Born October 31, 1941, in rural Dexter, he was the son of Clell and Ada Caroline (Dyke) Killingsworth. He attended Dexter schools through the fourth grade when his family moved to Wichita. He returned to Dexter for his Junior and Senior year of high school, where he was on the first organized six man football team. He graduated from Dexter High School in 1959.
Kent was united in marriage to Lynda “Lyn” Latta on July 22, 1960, at the First Presbyterian Church Chapel in Arkansas City. The couple lived in Arkansas City for a short five years before making their home in Dexter. As a young man, Kent hauled hay for area farmers. He later went to work for Sante Fe Railroad and eventually made his career with Total Refinery, retiring as the Maintenance Supervisor in 1995.
Kent was a member of Dexter Christian Church. He loved his community and was an active volunteer in the Dexter Civic Club, the Dexter Senior Citizens, the Dexter City Council, and the Dexter School Board. He enjoyed playing golf, mowing, gardening, watching westerns, and KU Basketball. In his younger years, he enjoyed bird hunting and being a small airplane pilot. He especially loved attending his grandkids activities and was very supportive of all Dexter school activities.
His family includes his wife Lyn Killingsworth of Dexter; his children, Aaron Kent Killingsworth II and wife, Sandy of Westmoreland; Kelly Renee Alberding and husband, Alan of Dexter; Tracey Lyn Crow and husband, Brad of Winfield; his sisters, Lida Smith of Divine, TX; Sue Pappan of Wichita; Faye Hansen and husband, Warren of Mulvane; his grandchildren, Whitney Hasselbring and husband, Brad, Emily Fatout, Allie Crow, Abby Crow, Charles Killingsworth, Samantha Killingsworth, Jay Killingsworth, Jancy Dorzweiler and husband, Tyler; his great grandchildren, Evan Hasselbring, Leighton Hasselbring, Brooks Hasselbring; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Kent was preceded in death by two brothers, Dale and Donald Killingsworth.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Dexter Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 6 that evening.
Memorials have been established in Kent’s name for the Dexter Senior Citizens and Dexter Christian Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
