Alan Joseph Brennan, 72, of Winfield, KS, passed away August 26, 2026 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Monday, August 31st, at the First Presbyterian Church in Winfield.
Graveside will follow at Highland Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 3-4 PM Sunday, August
30th, at the Shelley Family Funeral Home in Winfield. Memorials in his name may be made to K&O
Steam and Gas Engine Show, the Southwestern College Athletic Department, or the First Presbyterian
Church, and left in the care of the funeral home.
Alan was born on November 23, 1953, in Winfield, KS, to parents John “Jake” Joseph and Elaine
(Baird) Brennan. He graduated from Winfield High School in 1971; in 1975 he graduated from
Southwestern College with a bachelor’s in physics. On June 2, 1979, he was united in marriage to the
love of his life, Cathe Sherrard, at the First Presbyterian Church. They made their home in Winfield, and
Alan worked as an electrical engineer for Gordon-Piatt for 25 years and later Webster Engineering for
15 years. Alan was a member of the K&O Steam and Gas Engine Club and the first Presbyterian church.
He enjoyed being artistic through woodcarving, painting, drawing, and photography. He enjoyed
baseball and basketball, puzzles, trains, tractors and old cars. He knew how to have fun and “gave
himself 100 percent to everything he did”.
Alan is survived by his wife Cathe, mother Elaine Brennan, children, Andy Brennan, Ethan Brennan
(Sarah), Cassidae Brennan, grandchildren, Graham and Caroline and Blaire, sisters Cindy Kearns
(Eddie) and Deb Brennan.
He is preceded in death by his father.
