Allene Maryann Vaughters
1937 - 2025

Allene Maryann Vaughters, 87, of New Salem, Kansas, passed away Monday afternoon, September 8, 2025, six years to the day of the death of her beloved husband Dick.

Born September 18, 1937, in Winfield, she was the daughter of Roy Lee and Grace Lucille (Keesey) Lumbert. She was raised and received her education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1955, the night of the Udall tornado.

Allene was united in marriage to Richard B. “Dick” Vaughters on November 20, 1955, in her parents’ living room in New Salem. The couple lived all over the world for the next 20 years, as Dick was stationed at various Air Force Bases. Allene worked part-time at Merchandise Mart and later the Cotton Gin but made her career as a wife, mother, and homemaker. Dick preceded her in death on September 8, 2019.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Winfield and the Walnut Valley Quilters Guild. She enjoyed quilting and dearly loved people. She especially loved spending time with her family.

Allene’s family includes her children, Kevin Vaughters and wife, Joy of Edna; Susie Blasi and husband, Bob of Pratt; David Vaughters and wife, Mary of Augusta; her grandchildren, Chantel McCartney and husband, Kenny; Derek Vaughters and wife, Angelina; Bronson Blasi and fiance Taylor; Kaylee Vaughters; Madison Vaughters; and her great grandchildren, Audra, Aiden, Leia, Charlotte, Brexten, and Anna.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at New Salem Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 6 that evening.

Memorials have been established in Allene’s name for the First Presbyterian Church and for Harry Hynes Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
