Antonio “Tony” Ramirez, 79, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday, June 26, 2025, at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.
Born July 5, 1945, in Wellington, Kansas, he was the son of Tobias and Tiburcia (Venegas) Ramirez. He was raised and received his education in Wellington, graduating from Wellington High School in 1965. After school, he worked for a short time in the aircraft industry at both Beech and GE.
Tony was united in marriage to Maria “Jenny” Negrete on September 6, 1969, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Winfield. The couple made their home in Winfield where Tony began his career at Binney & Smith Crayola Factory. He worked in several capacities during his 24 year career and was working as a Mixer in the Paint Department when Binney & Smith closed in 1997. He later went to work at William Newton Hospital in the Housekeeping department until retiring in 2007.
Tony was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church. He loved playing golf and hunting golf balls. He also enjoyed bowling, playing pool, going to the casino, and spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid KU fan.
His family includes his wife Jenny of Winfield; his children, Cynthia Mendoza and husband, Pablo of Winfield; Petra Ramirez of Winfield; Tony Ramirez and wife, Maggie of Wichita; Patricia Ramirez of Winfield; Andrew Ramirez and wife, Emily of Wichita; his brothers, Joseph Ramirez of Goddard; Raymond Ramirez of Wellington; John Ramirez of Shreveport, LA; Paul Ramirez and wife, Debbie of Wichita; Tom Ramirez and wife, Renee of Castaic, CA; Larry Ramirez and wife, Sheri of Wichita; his sister Delores Rodriguez of Wichita; his grandchildren, Darian, A.J., Marissa, Celine, Pablo, Jr., Isabela, Lilli, Priscilliana, Andrew, Jr., Eden, Annalise, Salvador, Estella; his great grandchildren, Aurelie, Luisito, Rozalia, and Blythe; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Tony was preceded in death by three brothers, Victor, Manuel, Sebastian, two sisters, Theresa and Sandy, and a grandson Esaias.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, July 3, 2025, at Holy Name Catholic Church. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. The Rosary will be prayed on Wednesday evening at 7:00 P.M. A visitation will be held at Miles Funeral Service on Wednesday afternoon from 3 to 5 P.M.
Memorials have been established in Tony’s name for Children’s Mercy Hospital and for Holy Name Catholic Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
