Barbara Jean Sweet
1956 - 2026

Barbara Jean (Berg) Sweet, 69, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away peacefully at home on Monday morning, February 2, 2026.

Barbara was born to John “Stan” and Bonnie Jean (Hallmark) Berg on July 13, 1956, at Memorial Hospital. She was the fourth of five children. She attended C-4 Elementary School, Arkansas City Middle School, and graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1974. She graduated from Cowley County Community College with an Associate’s degree in 1976. Barb attended Arkansas City Redeemer Lutheran Church where she was baptized and confirmed.

Barbara married Terry Sweet on October 19, 1984, in Arkansas City. The couple made their home in Winfield. She worked at General Electric at Strother Field for over 22 years in many office positions. She later worked part-time with American Family Insurance and Powder Valley Inc. in Winfield.

Barb’s memory will be cherished by her husband Terry of Winfield; children, Randy John Sweet of Winfield; Kelly Jean Sweet of Lawrence; grandson Adrian Sweet of Tyrone, OK; her siblings, Christine Berg Walker of Winfield; Hal Berg and wife, Dena of Arkansas City; many beloved nieces and nephews and their children; uncle Rev. Don Berg and wife, Judy of Garland, TX; and her brothers-in-law, Tom Sweet and wife, Karen of Winfield; Tony Sweet and wife, Vicki of Willis, TX.

In addition to her parents, Barb was preceded in death by two brothers, Philip and Mark Berg.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Miles Funeral Service. The family will hold memorial services at 2:00 PM, Friday, February 13, 2026, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Arkansas City. Burial will take place at Parker Cemetery at a later date.

The family of Barbara Sweet extends their sincere gratitude to the Gentiva Hospice staff for the wonderful care they provided Barb these last few months, especially to those who made her final days more comfortable. Thank you to Redeemer Lutheran Church, Trinity Lutheran Church, and to other friends and family for keeping Barb in their prayers.
