Bart A. Schooley
1958 - 2024

Bart Schooley, 66, of Cambridge, Kansas, passed away Thursday morning, November 7, 2024, at William Newton Hospital.

Born April 16, 1958, in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Richard J. and Marcile Karan (Hall) Schooley. He was raised in Latham and Cambridge and attended school at Central of Burden, graduating in 1976. He learned to be a Farrier starting at the age of nine, studying under Tony Wood. He continued as a Farrier his entire life, working all over the country and was considered one of the best. While he was a young man, Bart worked on the family ranch and enjoyed rodeoing. He participated in many rough stock events, specializing in bareback riding. He was a member of the PRCA, the CPRA, and the IPRA.

He was united in marriage to Elizabeth “Roxann” Hauck on December 2, 1992. The couple made their home in Cambridge. In the early 1990s, Bart began working as an animal handler for Hedrick’s Exotic Animals. While at Hedrick’s, he worked with the Rockettes at the Christmas Spectacular. He later went to work for Wildcat Construction, helping build the Kellogg Exchange and transporting the Keeper of the Plains. In recent years, he drove truck for Fleming Feed and Grain, where he enjoyed visiting with farmers. He also enjoyed attending the horse races in Oklahoma City and Omaha, Nebraska.

His family includes his wife, Roxann Schooley of Cambridge; his children, Shawna Mayfield of Derby; Tosha King and husband, Greg of Winfield; his siblings, Randy Schooley and wife, Cindy of Latham; Jimmy Schooley and wife, Peggy of Cambridge; Leah Henderson and husband, Eddie of Burden; his grandchildren, Brady Mayfield and wife, Andi of Augusta; Braelynn Mayfield of Augusta; Conagher Mayfield of Augusta; and Stoanie Mayfield of Augusta; his aunt Leola Little of Douglas; his uncle Joe Hall and wife, Kay of Atlanta; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Bart was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Marcile (Hall) Schooley.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Cambridge Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled Monday from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 5 to 7 that evening.

Memorials have been established in Bart’s name for the Burden and Cambridge Fire Departments. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
