Betty C. Orr
1934 - 2025

“Beautiful Betty” Colleen Orr, 91, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Sunday, June 22, 2025, at her home.

Born February 15, 1934, in Cushing, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Ira Ocle and Floy (Harmon) Harris. She was raised and received her education in Cushing, graduating from Cushing High School in 1952. Following high school, she attended Draughon School of Business in Oklahoma City. While in Oklahoma City, Betty lived with a family that she babysat and polished silver to pay for her room and board.

She was united in marriage to William Garth “Bill” Orr, Jr. on September 5, 1953, in Cushing. Betty worked for the City of Cushing, Oklahoma. The family moved to Winfield, Kansas and Betty began working as a bookkeeper at the State Bank. They returned to Oklahoma and she worked and retired from the Bank of America. Bill preceded her in death on May 23, 2014.

Betty returned to Winfield and was an active, dedicated member of Central Baptist Church. She enjoyed going to garage sales and collecting “treasures”. She and Bill also loved antiquing and collecting depression glass, especially the ballerina and green. She enjoyed spending time with her family and served the role of connector. She kept in loving touch with all, made the phone calls, sent the cards and let family know when other members were celebrating or struggling. Family, church and community were at the center of her heart.

Her family includes her sons, Blaine (Joanna) Orr of Branson, MO; Blake (Ruth Ann) Orr of Winfield; Brent (Lisa) Orr of Morrison, OK; her daughter-in-law Catherine (Bill) Candler of Dallas, TX; her sister-in-law Carolyn Harris; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by a son William Garth “Butch” Orr III, grandsons, Casey Allen Orr and Joshua Ocle Orr, granddaughter Talitha Orr, a brother Bill, and a nephew.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Central Baptist Church in Winfield. Private burial will take place at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at Miles Funeral Service on Friday from 5 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 5 to 7 that evening.

A memorial has been established in Beautiful Betty’s name for Central Baptist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
